The forces reshaping associations are arriving faster—and interacting in more complex ways—than ever before. Changing member expectations, workforce disruption, economic uncertainty, emerging technologies and new sources of competition are challenging long-held assumptions about how associations create value. Understanding these trends is no longer simply an exercise in forecasting; it is essential to making informed decisions about where to invest, what to change and how to remain indispensable to members.

CSAE’s 2026 Fall Future of Associations Symposium will give association leaders the opportunity to step beyond today’s immediate demands and examine what may be coming next. Through research-based insights and provocative discussion, participants will explore the trends influencing the association sector, consider their potential impact and identify practical ways to prepare their organizations for continued relevance, resilience and growth. The future cannot be predicted with certainty—but leaders who recognize emerging signals early are far better positioned to shape it.

Guiding this important conversation will be Dean West, FASAE, Founder and President of Association Laboratory and a globally recognized association strategist, researcher and futurist. Dean has spent more than 30 years working with associations and regularly advises and facilitates national and global association leadership groups. A former association executive, he has also served on the Association Forum Board of Directors, chaired ASAE’s Professional Development Council and served on ASAE’s Membership Council. Known for translating complex research into clear strategic implications, Dean brings a candid, engaging and forward-looking perspective that challenges association leaders to question conventional thinking and confidently prepare for what lies ahead.
